Fuzzy Zoeller Productions offers the
Putting Peg and Putting
Pod putting training aids. Both devices are based upon the theory
that practicing putting to a small object
will improve your putting
when you get back on the course and a regulation-sized hole. Many
of us have practiced putting to a tee
on practice green. Same
concept here but with a unique twist: audible feedback of the ball
hitting the bottom of the cup. The Putting
Peg is shaped like an
enlarged tee and sticks in the ground and gives the player immediate
feedback when the ball hits the peg.
The Putting Pod is the
indoor version and affixes to your carpet with Velcro tape. Invented
by Fuzzy Zoeller and Dave Lobeck, the
training aids are simple
yet effective. They combine the benefits of putting to a small
target (1.25 inches in diameter as compared
to a regulation golf
hole at 4.25 inches) with the positive psychological benefit a
player experiences when hearing the ball fall in the
hole. This is accomplished
by a patent pending mini speaker and battery system that emits
the sound of a ball falling in the hole
when the unit is struck
by a golf ball. The battery life will last between 500 to 700 sound
bytes.
PGA Tour professional Robert
Gamez recently reached an agreement to
represent the Putting
Peg and Putting Pod training
aids while competing
on The PGA Tour. “I
began using Fuzzy’s putting aids last year, and I have no doubt
they have helped my putting significantly,” said Gamez. “Anyone
who follows golf knows that one of the
most important statistics is putting,
and mine has improved significantly over
the past twelve months or so thanks to these aids.”
The Putting Peg and Putting Pod
are available in retail outlets such
as Kmart, Dick’s Sporting
Goods, Golfsmith, Discovery Stores, Edwin Watts, Roger Dunn, Big 5,
Academy, and pro
shops across the country. Retail pricing
is about $10 each. Comments on Use:
- Excellent packaging with easy
to follow instructions
on back.
- Includes
velcro
adhesive which
tapes to the bottom
of the device.
Great idea to
keep the pod stable on carpeted
surfaces.
- Small
size
is perfect,
it forces the
player to really concentrate
which can only
help in making those nerve wracking
5-6 footers.
We found it reminiscent
of the
smaller cut holes
in some practice greens at various
courses nationwide.
- The sound
of the putt going
in the hole is
very
attractive and
really breeds confidence. You can really
focus on keeping
your
head down through
impact simply listening for
the "sound".
- We
found that one
of our reviewers
kids, ages 4
and
7, have really
taken to the
Putting Pod
as well. Within
the first week
of use,
the kids have
practiced their
putting each
day because
they enjoy hearing
the sound it
makes when
a golf ball hits it.
- Comes in an indoor and
outdoor version.
The outdoor
version is made
similar to
a golf
tee
which can easily
be inserted and
removed from
the practice
green.
Summary:
The Putting Pod and Putting Peg are a great value at $9.99. The
devices are easy and fun to use. Repeated use of these training aids
will improve your putting. We found it to be real useful on putts
inside of 8 feet. The audible feedback is what makes the Putting
Peg and Putting Pod stand apart from other "target" putter
training aids.
