AccuSpirit
Improvement Area: Alignment
Rating: - Useful
Description:

AJ Assist of Plymouth, Massachusetts, offers a patented golf training aid call the AccuSpirit. The device is targeted toward improving your alignment. We all know that one of the keys to low scores is to be able to line up to your target consistantly. The AccuSpirit ensures that the club face and your body are aligned properly. This combined with a recommended pre-shot routine and ground alignment pointer will promote improved alignment and more accurate shots.

The AccuSpirit attaches to the lower part of the club's grip and features a curved level that, in the address position, indicates the position of the club face relative to your body. If the indicator is off center, then you have the club face open or closed relative to your stance. Golfers can hit golf balls with the AccuSpirit attached offering direct feedback of ball flight and direction and confirmation of alignment. The AccuSpirit is not legal for official play. Suggested retail price for the AccuSpirit is $19.95 and it is available directly form AJ Assist through their website. The device comes with a 30-day money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase.

Comments on Use:

We found that with continued use, the AccuSpirit requires you to focus on your complete alignment: ball and feet position, and club face alignment.

  • The AccuSpirit can be used for woods, irons, wedges, and putters. It was very effective in identifying putter alignment issues.
  • The instructions for using the AccuSpirit could have been better. Upon repeated reading of the instructions, we determined that the pointer is to be used in conjunction with a club as a "T" alignment guide.
  • It is imperative to have your hands placed in their usual position prior to attaching the AccuSpirit to the grip. Otherwise, the indicator will not provide accurate readings.
  • Golfers need to have a consistent setup in order to best benefit from using the AccuSpirit.
  • The device came off on a couple of instances while hitting golf balls. We notified the manufacturer of this and they promptly sent an improved version of the AccuSpirit that fit snugly and held up to repeated use.

Summary:

There are not many training aids on the market today specifically designed to improve club face alignment. The AccuSpirit is an attempt to fill this void. We found that the device does as it is advertised. It provides direct visual feedback as to the relationship between the clubface and the golfer's body. The AccuSpirit comes with and additional ground alignment pointer that can be attached to a second club laid at your feet aimed at the target providing a "T" alignment reference. The pointer assists in establishing the proper feet and ball position, which combined with the AccuSpirit, addresses a total training solution for alignment. The AccuSpirit alignment training aid might be useful to middle to high handicap golfers looking for an inexpensive aid to work on establishing proper alignment. Established lower handicap golfers will also benefit from the AccuSpirit to verify their setup and check their alignment to finely hone their game.
