Setup & Alignment |
|
|
Setup is very easy. The center-shafted head sets up squarely
behind the ball and it is easy to tell if the putter blade
is open or closed. The contrasting gray and black body and
the alignment line provide a definitive mark and also contributes
to the simpleness of this putter. |

Feel |
|
|
Feel is all dependent on the particular ball being played,
but we found that the proprietary "gray matter" center
section of the putter softens the feel of even the hardest
golf balls. We tested some balata golf balls with this putter
and found the feel to be too soft at impact minimizing feedback
to the hands. However, any of the multi-layer and soft cover
two-piece balls will provide ample feedback at impact. |

Performance |
|
|
The simpleness of alignment and blade design of this putter
made this putter excel at putts inside of 10 feet. Straight
back and straight forward produces "straight in" results.
We thought that we may have trouble controlling distances
on longer putts but found that the Sigma performed admirably
here as well. The club provided excellent feedback on putts
of any length. |

Looks
|
The black-gray-black head is the best color
scheme on the market today. Add to this the shiny chrome
steel shaft and no hosel and the word "sleek" comes
to mind. Simple straightforward graphics complete the elegant
design. The grip is made by Winn Grips and also features
the black-gray-black color.

Summary |
We can see why this putter has found its way
in the bags of several touring professionals. The center-shafted
Sigma provides a distinctive look and easy alignment with
consistent results on putts of all lengths. Golfers that
grew up playing a "bullseye" style putter will
be able to play this putter with minimal adjustment and benefit
from its heavy head and wide sole. Golfers that have played
putters with offset will require some adjustment on ball
position but should be able to make the switch as well. This
was our first center-shafted model to test extensively and
we recommend that if you are struggling with the flatstick
to give the Sigma a try and see if it can improve your game.
