Sonartec SS-3.5 Fairway

Manufacturer's Description
The SS-3.5 fairway wood from Sonartec Golf features a new "Hot-Face" alloy designed to produce a higher ball velocity. The SS-3.5 also features an internal rear-weight distribution that produces a mid-low launch angle. The Driving Cavity design raises the club’s Center of Gravity in line with the impact point of the ball, optimizing spin for a penetrating trajectory. It also maximizes heel-toe weight for forgiveness on mis-hits.  The SS-3.5 comes standard with the Fujikura Tour Platform™ 26.3 graphite shaft.  The Sonartec SS-3.5 fairway woods are currently available with a suggested retail price of $289 each.

Sonartec SS-3.5 Fairway Review:

Accuracy

Less-Avg-More

The Sonartec SS-3.5 is very accurate. Sonartec is very good at matching their stock graphite shaft, in this case the Fujikura 26.3 Tour Platform Series, with their clubhead design. Together, we found the SS 3.5 to be consistently accurate.
Distance

Short-Avg-Long

The SS-3.5 offers superb distance. It was longer than our comparison Titleist 980F 13 degree fairway wood.  We were able to hit it off the deck or off of the tee similar distances. We found this club to be very easy to hit off of the ground.
Trajectory

Low-Avg-High

The trajectory of the SS-3.5 is an ideal 3-wood trajectory that is consistent in its performance.  We never experienced any ballooning and never hit one that came off the face low. We experienced consistent results with every swing.
Feel

Less-Avg-More

We found the feel of the SS-3.5 to be amazing. We have previously played this club’s predecessor, the SS-03, and loved its performance, especially the feel.  We think the original is one of the most solid feeling fairway woods ever produced.  In the SS-3.5, the same amazing feel is there but with a nice high pitch sound to match. The combination is very confidence building.

Forgiveness

Less-Avg-More

We found the forgiveness of the SS 3.5 fairway to be excellent. The SS-3.5 is extremely forgiving and like the Sonartec MD, toe and heel shots don't overly hook or slice.  We found that the club yielded great results from off center hits and without significantly affecting feel or distance.

Looks
The Sonartec SS 3.5 is very striking with its deep dark color and elegant simple design. The SS-3.5 is a deep face design. Sonartec clubs have a very traditional and classic look to them and this one is no exception.

Summary:
The SS-3.5 fairway wood from Sonartec receives high marks for overall performance, forgiveness, and distance.  We found the SS-3.5 to be even better than its predecessors.  The look, hot face, feel, and sound of this club are exceptional.  We highly recommend the Sonartec line of fairway woods to golfers of all abilities.  The SS-3.5 will appeal to low handicap and consistent swinging golfers while the SS 2.5 medium depth face version may appeal to mid and higher handicap golfers needing a design to assist in getting the ball airborne.  Additional information on the complete lineup from Sonartec Golf can be found on their web page at http://www.sonartec.com.
