Review: The Bushnell Medalist is a great addition to their successful line of golf laser rangefinders. It can zero in on any target and give precise yardage (+ or - 1 yard) by simply placing the circle in the viewfinder on the target and pressing a button. It is very simple and straightforward to use.  Users can get yardages to 150 yard stakes in the fairways, bunkers, water hazards, trees and most importantly, flagsticks very easily. It definitely gives the golfer added confidence on the tee and from the fairway. At $299, the Medalist is $100 cheaper than their popular PinSeeker
rangefinders. The Medalist incorporates the PinSeeker technology which allows you to insure you are getting the flag and not something behind the pin. In PinSeeker mode, the Medalist will give you yardages to both objects in its view; the first yardage it indicates is the one closest. We took both the Medalist and the PinSeeker 1500 on course to compare the two and each repeatedly produced the same yardage. The Medalist is smaller in size than the PinSeeker model and requires a steady hand to lock in the target. We have played with other golfers using the GPS-based range finders and noticed that they can be standing next to each other and their distances be off 5-8 yards. This may not sound like much but 8 yards is a club difference which is pretty critical when playing a difficult golf course. The benefit of the laser rangefinder is that it does not rely on courses to be mapped nor does it require any reflective device to be located on the pin. These are significant advantages for the laser-based devices. Overall, we give the Medalist high marks for its ease of use, great price point and for the advantages it can give a golfer. It definitely speeds up the pace of play on course giving golfers quick and accurate yardages and the confidence to make the shot.
