Callaway Golf Equipment

Callaway Golf Company was founded in 1982 by Ely Callaway. In the early years, the company was known as Callaway Hickory Stick USA, Inc. and specialized in hickory shafted putters and wedges. In 1988 the name of the company was changed to Callaway Golf Company and the following is a chronological history of golf equipment produced by the Callaway Golf Company. Note: Women's equipment is not included at this time.

1988-1994 S2H2 irons; S2H2 stands for Short Straight Hollow Hosel and are design characteristics of this model. The design also features a slight cast cavity back with minimal progressive offset, rounded heel, and a bore-through shaft.
1989-1993 S2H2 woods; traditional sized (driver volume - 150cc) stainless steel woods featuring a unique multi-faceted sole. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
1990-1995 Bobby Jones irons; this design is a cast blade also featuring the short, straight, hollow hosel and bore-through shaft. "Bobby Jones" signature script stamped on back with USA stamped on back near toe. Club number and "Callaway" stamped on sole.
1990-1995 Bobby Jones woods; slightly smaller than the S2H2 woods featuring S2H2 and bore-through shaft design features.
1991-1994 Big Bertha woods; the original oversized metal wood. Named after the World War I cannon. Available in driver (volume - 190cc) and fairway woods. Combined the S2H2 and bore-through shaft design with an oversized head.
1994-1995 Big Bertha irons; original Big Bertha irons featuring 360° undercut channel, thick topline, thin face, and generous offset. Black medallion in cavity with silver and red lettering and number on sole. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
  Big Bertha Blade putters; putters featuring 360° undercut channel and black medallion similar to the Big Bertha irons. Available in men's and women's models.
1995-1998 Big Bertha Warbird woods; stainless steel driver (volume - 195cc) and fairway woods featuring the War Bird soleplate. This sole design was adapted from the Callaway's original "HeavenWood". Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology. Available driver lofts include 9°, 10°, 11°, and 12°. Fairway woods include The Deuce (2), 3, 4, 5, the HeavenWood, and the DivineNine wood.
1995-1998 Great Big Bertha driver; titanium driver with a volume of 253 cc and featuring the war bird sole. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology. Lofts include 6.5°, 7.5°, 8°, 8.5°, 10°, 11°, and 12°.
1996-1998 Improved Big Bertha irons; update to the original Big Bertha irons that included four changes (improvements). 1) repositioning of the club's center of gravity, 2) reshaping of the sole contours, 3) subtle changes to the topline, sole, and heel areas, and 4) a new graphite shaft, the RCH Series 96.
1996-1998 Great Big Bertha fairway woods; fairway woods incorporating the design features of the Great Big Bertha driver. Models include 2, 3, Strong 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 woods.
1996-1998 Big Bertha Gold irons; irons made from aluminum bronze for a distinct appearance and softer feel. Incorporates all of the design features of the Big Bertha iron.
1996-1998 Big Bertha Tour Series Wedges; wedges co-designed by Roger Cleveland (formerly of Cleveland Golf). These wedges featured reduced offset and elimination of the undercut channel. Available in 48°, 52°, 56°, and 60° models. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
1996- Bobby Jones putters; putters featuring milled face and shot-peened metal finish with "Bobby Jones" script in the perimeter weighted models. 10 models from 1996-1998 include BJ-1 through BJ-10 (BJ-7 shown). 2 models in 1999 include BJ-11 and BJ-12.
1997- Biggest Big Bertha driver; titanium driver with a volume of 290 cc. Largest of the Callaway line. Features Biggest Big Bertha Ultra Light, a 45 1/2" lightweight graphite shaft. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
1997- Great Big Bertha Tungsten Titanium irons; titanium irons featuring a tungsten inset that accounts for 15% of the clubhead's volume and 40% of the clubhead's total weight. Black medallion in cavity. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
1998- Big Bertha X12 irons; irons feature varied 360° undercut channel with a narrower sole than the original Big Bertha. Multi-layered cavity back design. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology. White medallion in cavity. Number on sole and face near toe.
1998- SteelHead woods; stainless steel driver (volume - 205cc) and fairway woods featuring a 3 piece design - lightweight crown plate, body, and variable weight chip. The weight chip lowers the club's center of gravity and varies in weight from 2 to 24 grams. Features Hawk Eye sole that is flatter than the previous War Bird design. Incorporates S2H2 and bore-through shaft technology.
1998- Little Bertha clubs for kids; junior clubs with graphite shafts based on Steelhead and X-12 designs. Set includes driver, 6 iron, 8 iron, wedge, putter, and Callaway logo stand bag. Available in two sizes - Medium (~ ages 7-9 years) and Tall (~ ages 10-12).
1999- Carlsbad Series putters; putters named for roads near Callaway Golf's headquarters. Models include Palomar, Rutherford, Aston, and Faraday.
1999- Great Big Bertha Hawk Eye woods; titanium driver (volume - 253cc) and fairway woods featuring a 3 piece design - lightweight crown plate body, and Tungsten Gravity Screw in sole. The screw varies in weightand position from the driver to the fairway woods allowing precise placement of each club's center of gravity. Incorporates Hawk Eye sole, S2H2, and bore-through shaft technology.
1999- Big Bertha X12 Less Offset irons; reduced offset and slightly different weight distribution than the original X-12s. Polished satin finish. Features proprietary Constant Weight Rifle shaft designed by Royal Precision for Callaway. The shafts maintain the same weight thoughout the entire set of irons. Black medallion in cavity with "Pro Series" underneath X-12 name. Number on sole only.
1999-2000 Big Bertha Hawk Eye Tungsten Injected Titanium irons; irons made from titanium featuring Callaway Tungsten Weight Matrix. The tungsten is injected in an area that extends from heel to toe along the inside of the clubhead's sole. This allows precision placement of the center of gravity for each club. Also features multi-layer cavity back similar to the X-12 series as well as 360° varied undecut channel. High gloss finish with number on sole. Hawk Eye medallion in cavity covering weight port.
