The 2003 Golf Ball Report report provides scientific-based data that golfers can use as a starting point for comparison and selection of golf balls. The report consists of a series of tests detailing head to head analysis of this year's group of golf balls. For this analysis, we performed a scientific-based test in an indoor environment utilizing a human tester, Launch Monitor System, and Swing Speed Analyzer. Our analysis method included compiling data from the launch monitor system measuring golf ball backspin, sidespin, velocity, and side angle. The system took this measured data and then calculated shot carry distance, shot dispersion, and shot trajectory. Four tests were conducted on each golf ball: Driver Test, 6-iron Test, Wedge Test, and 3/4 Wedge Test.

We identified driver distance and spin, 6-iron distance and spin, and wedge distance and spin as the most relevant criteria used when selecting a golf ball. Also included in our test is a Durability Indicator.
