Accuracy |
We found that the Ashton X-1 fairway wood head with the Harrison Striper J shaft was a good combination. As long as we kept a smooth tempo the club was very consistent off the deck as well as off the tee. The X-1 design was found to be more accurate off the deck than our comparison fairway woods. The biggest difference between the Ashton and our comparison fairway woods was that the X-1 exhibited improved accuracy off the tee and better performance out of the rough.

Distance |
We found the Ashton X-1 to produce similar distance of other similarly lofted fairway woods. Distance was found to be better with the X-1 on off-center hits than with our comparison fairway woods. |
Trajectory |
We found the trajectory of the Ashton X-1 fairway wood to be a boring mid flight. We were able to control it and hit it low into the wind which proved to be advantageous. Both reviewers were able to hit their natural ball flight with this fairway wood. |
Feel |
The Ashton X-1 fairway wood produced an extremely solid feel at impact with a distinct high pitched sound. It was difficult at times to tell that we hit off-center hits with this club. It seems to sound the same whether it was hit dead center of miss hit slightly off the heel or toe.
Forgiveness |
The Ashton X-1 fairway wood is very forgiving on off center hits. We found that the distance produced on these types of shots was excellent compared to our comparison fairway woods. The X-1 was very easy to hit.

Looks |
The Ashton X-1 fairway wood features a classical head shape with low shallow face profile giving the player confidence at address. The shallow face was especially effective on tight lies and from the rough. The fisnih is a high gloss black with mirror finish sole and clean crisp graphics. A classy and elegant looking fairway wood. |
Summary:
The Ashton X-1 three wood from Ashton Golf receives high marks for forgiveness, distance, accuracy, feel, and looks. It may well be one of the best overall fairway woods on the market today. We feel that this club will especially appeal to low and mid handicap golfers although we think that smooth swinging mid handicap golfers will like the consistency found with this fairway wood. Ashton is soon to release the X-1D fairway wood featuring the same design as the X-1 but for those golfers that desire a deeper face profile in their fairway woods. These woods are expected to be out later this spring. Additional information on the complete lineup from Ashton Golf can be found on their web page atwww.ashtongolf.com.
