The Liquidmetal Fairway metal wood is on par with other fairway
woods that we have reviewed. The club is slightly closed
at address. One of our reviewers felt that he had to make
an adjustment at address in order to square the club to get
it to produce consistent results. Another reviewer felt that
the closed face helped produce straighter shots. |
|
Distance |
|
|
Slightly above average in the distance compared to other
models we have reiewed. Very comparable to many of the fairway
woods on the market today. Nothing spectacular but more than
adequate. |
|
Trajectory |
|
|
The trajectory of this club was medium to high. We found
it to be slightly higher that our comparison clubs. The combination
of 15 degree loft and TTR graphite shaft produced an optimal
ball flight for our reviewers. |
|
Feel |
|
|
The Liquidmetal insert face on the club
produced a loud, higher pitched sound on well struck shots.
Shots slightly off-center were still solid and shots even
more off-center produced a noticably more muted sound providing
good feedback to the golfer.

|
Forgiveness |
|
|
The Liquimetal fairway wood offers more
forgiveness than average. We found that the head is deeper
from front to back than our comparison clubs. Shots hit
off-center responded well with distance loss but minimal
direction problems.

Looks |
The color scheme is a very rich, deep, polished
gray-black with Golf Pride grips. The Liquidmetal fairway
metal wood features a rich gray, blue, blackish head color
with silver paint fill in the stampings. The head design
features the Liquidmetal alloy face insert and low hosel.
The color coordination continues with the two-tone black
and silver Liquidmetal TTR graphite shaft. The graphics on
the shaft are aligned so that they can be seen at address.
We prefer shaft graphics to be hidden at address for a cleaner
look. The club comes with a silver, deep blue, and black "NASA" headcover
that we felt compliments the club's design and high-tech
face insert. |
Summary:
The LMG Sports Liquidmetal
fairway woods are available
in lofts of 15, 19, and 23 degrees with stock Liquidmetal TTR graphite
shaft and Liquidmetal Tour
Velvet grip by Golf Pride.
The club received high marks for looks and forgiveness. It produced
consistent results across the board
and did not exhibit a
weak area. We think that middle to high handicap golfers would
benefit from the overall performance of this fairway
wood. Low handicap golfers
would probably prefer a club that sits square at address, although
many could use this club and get consistent
results. During our review
of this club, we noticed that Golfsmith began offering Liguidmetal
components in their recent catalog.
We asked LMG Sports about
these clubs and representative Crina Bigelow responded with the
following statement: "As far as
the components from Liquidmetal
Technologies that have just been offered by Golfsmith, they are
left-overs, they were liquidating
old inventory. These
components have nothing to do with us, we were offered them and
refused. We will be selling the Fairway Woods
complete, not as components
because we strongly believe the shaft we have chosen to accompany
the head has made the best possible
overall quality." We agree that the Liquidmetal Fairway
woods perform well with the TTR graphite shaft. The fairway woods
suggested
retail price are $179.99
each and they are currently available. Additional information on
LMG Sports and their entire product lineup
including irons and golf
balls can be found on their website at
