The Antigua Group recently introduced its new proprietary DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE (D2XL) fabrics in its Spring 2010 men’s and women’s golf-apparel lines. The new lines are called the Performance Collections and we recently had the opportunity to try out a few items.

Description: The key feature of the apparel is the DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE (D2XL) fabrics that combine Antigua’s exclusive DESERT DRY moisture-wicking feature with specially constructed ultra-light fabrics for Antigua Apparelmaximum wicking performance and optimum comfort.

Antigua’s new DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE is an extremely light fabric without being sheer. The three-dimensional construction is what makes the fabric extremely light without being sheer or see-through. Because the fabric has a lighter weight construction, DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE wicks away moisture even quicker than Antigua’s proprietary DESERT DRY, a performance fabric the company created when it introduced its performance category for golf several years ago.

For Spring 2010 Antigua takes its high performance collection in a new direction. Taking its lead from the ever evolving fashion market Antigua steps out – and up by introducing what they’ve coined ‘contemporary performance’. Taking its highly effective DESERT DRY and new DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE Antigua Apparelmoisture wicking performance fabrics with their soft textures and light weight athletic drape and moves from active brights and active wear styling and replaces them with a rich sophisticated color palette and clean updated styling details to complete its transformation to contemporary performance men’s golf wear collection for Spring 2010. The Spring 2010 Antigua Women’s Performance collection’s three innovative, opulent product groups are Chic, Elegance and Luxe, DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE will be featured in the Luxe collection’s Flourish (poly all-over embossed jersey polo) and Impeccable (poly/spandex jacquard mesh polo) styles. DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE fabric will also be used in basic styles such as the Women’s Exceed group, which consists of a short-sleeve polo, and sleeveless and long-sleeve polo styles.

“Our target audience is the weekend golfer, who expects their apparel to perform,” says Ron McPherson, president of Antigua. “When golfers began demanding performance apparel several years ago, we not only continued to excel as a genuine golf brand, but we easily shifted to performance apparel. Our DESERT DRY moisture-wicking fabrics showed we were serious about creating the industry’s best performance apparel, and now our DESERT DRY XTRA-LITE is another breakthrough fabric we know consumers will embrace.”

Review: Antigua celebrates it 30th anniversary in 2010 and the new Performance Collection may be their best apparel to date. Notable professionals wearing Antigua apparel on tour include Notah Begay III, Kevin Streelman, Billy Mayfair, Brittany Lang and Dorothy Delasin. We tested a sample from the Men’s Performance Collection and were very impressed with the athletic yet trim fit that allowed unrestricted movement while swinging a golf club. The material was soft and very comfortable to wear on and off the course. The moisture-wicking fabric works as advertised and the shirts held up very well wash after wash. The attention to detail can be seen in the construction of the shirt, seams and buttons all the way down to the stitched Antigua logo. The spring collection is extensive and includes short and long sleeve polos, shorts, long sleeve button down shirts, fleece vests, long sleeve fleece pullovers, wind shirts and jackets We feel that Antigua combines high quality and value and give Antigua’s new Performance Collection high marks for comfort, fit, and overall performance.
